Paper Bird Classics & Sparks are core lists of children’s literature, packaged in neat dozens, tailored to each year group (K-6) and designed for classrooms and home libraries. These have been curated by Paper Bird staff, with input from our resident Developmental Speech Pathologist, Sue Gawned.
We encourage parents and teachers to read these books aloud to their children, and for children to explore reading themselves, opening up in each child’s mind an infinite number of possibilities for creativity and developing their own narrative, their own sense of self. Books should be introduced to children that build on narrative skills and regularly reflect familiar cultural content that can centre a child’s developing identity. Ultimately every child should be given the opportunity to find themselves in a story.
