Briony Stewart
Author and illustrator

Briony Stewart is the author and illustrator of several award-winning books for children, including Kumiko and the Shadow Catchers, winner of the 2012 Queensland State Literature prize for children’s fiction. Briony lectures on children’s literature at university and conducts talks and workshops with children across Australia. She loves live drawing challenges, day dreaming and discussing dragons, bunnies and how to tame lions.
“For over 10 years now I have presented talks, workshops, university lectures and live drawing battles with adults and children. I am passionate about showing people how they can find their own stories and bring them to life in lots of different ways through writing and illustration.
I am confident in talking about all aspects of creating children’s books, to any audience (and I nearly always include some live-illustration fun in my presentations!) I love taking on odd and ambitious projects, such as making huge, collaborative dragon sculptures with children, devising rhyming treasure hunts, painting murals and constructing paper gardens.”
