Blending STEM, literacy and creativity to enthuse, engage and empower
I’m a science writer and children’s author with a passion for living with passion.
My work is focused on inspiring kids to play an active part of their world. Whether I’m writing fiction or non-fiction, I’m all about empowering our next generation of science-savvy citizens.
What does a science writer do?
I’ve worked as a science writer for CSIRO, CERN, Scitech, the Shell Questacon Science Circus and the West Australian Museum. I’ve also worked as a Santa’s pixie, garbage analyst and teacher, and I have degrees in biotechnology, science communication and professional writing.
I love to inspire creativity, daring and resilience in my readers. I also love chocolate.
Science and story…
Science and story are often seen as opposite ends of the creative spectrum. Yet both require a sense of wonder, a quest for more, and an ability to be comfortable with the uncomfortable. STEM and STEAM are where it’s at!
Join me to learn:
· How non-fiction can be even more fantastical and fun than fiction
· How to harness STEM to add fuel to the creative process
· How to link science and technology with arts and language in your creative pursuits
