Gabriel Evans
Author & Illustrator
Gabriel is an illustrator and author of picture books.
He has worked with acclaimed Australian and USA authors and has received two CBCA Notable Books of the Year and shortlisted twice in the Speech Pathology award.
He writes and illustrates his own books with his picture book, Ollie and Augustus (Walker Books) released in 2019 and subsequently released in the USA by Candlewick in 2020. He has written and illustrated a further two picture books out in 2020 with Hardie Grant Egmont and Berbay.
Gabriel is an energetic and interactive presenter visiting schools and libraries from Australian capital cities to remote community schools in the Pilbara and the Kimberley.
He works from a studio near a river where he drinks tea and makes books.
Sessions
Gabriel offers energetic and hands-on workshops sharing the step-by-step process in creating picture books.
Students participate in a range of activities including developing a picture book characters and creating an illustration based on a group story idea.
These sessions are accompanied by art demonstrations, an insight into the working life of a practising author and illustrator and a Q&A.

He shares his process for making characters, developing picture books and using visual literacy tools in his books.
